Technology Article Assignment
Keeping Up With Technology Assignment

FINAL DUE DATE: OCTOBER 5, 2009
In order to stay up-to-date with new advances in computer technology, your assignment over the next 8 weeks or so is to find and summarize ten articles that describe those advances. You may find the articles on the internet, in newspapers, or in magazines. The articles can be as short or as long as you’d like, but try to find news that actually interests you. Check with me if you aren’t sure an article qualifies as one about current computer technology.
1. You must copy and hand in the original article—no matter where it’s from.
2. You will also need to summarize the article by writing a paragraph about the article in your best printing or handwriting. You may use the computer pen and OneNote or just plain pen and paper. The paragraph should be at least 5 sentences long, should be in your own words, and should give me a basic idea of what the article was about, along with your opinion of the article. If the copy of your article doesn’t show the source or author and date, please include that information at the beginning of your summary. Title and Number your articles and summaries, with your name on each. See me for sample articles and summaries.
3. We will do the first article/summary together in class, and you will turn in the first article to me at the end of that class for review. I will give you feedback and return it so you can use it as a model and continue your search for 9 more.
4. As soon as you have collected all 10 articles and written all 10 summaries, staple them together and hand in! Be sure to include your name and block number on at the top of the first page.
This assignment may be completed: during class time while using the Internet ONLY if you finish the regular assignment early, during activity period, or at home. ALWAYS ask permission each day you want to work on your articles. You do not need Internet access for this assignment; newspapers and magazines also contain articles about new technology. The assignment could make a difference of one letter grade in your 9-week grade, so be sure you don’t neglect to do it! Keeping up with the latest in technology is interesting and important.
The assignment is evaluated on number and quality of articles and quality of summaries (content and spelling/grammar). The assignment is due the first day of class of the last week of the nine weeks. No late summaries are accepted, and I will give you many reminders when you have only 2 weeks left until the assignment is due.
